No Play Until After The Recession!

It never fails to amaze me as to just how daft our politicians are. The latest news, taken from the BBC, is:

“Hundreds of community playground schemes in England are being axed or scaled back because of government cuts. Education Secretary Michael Gove has frozen grants to 132 councils for building and running up to 1,300 schemes, many designed by youngsters.”

Plato was a great writer and philosopher and knew something about play and children. Michael Gove is the Education Secretary and appears to know very little about play and children. I suppose we can hope that the Prime Minister might pop up sometime and tell us it was all a great mistake and, like the milk fiasco, they weren’t really going to axe hundreds of community playground schemes!
